Peter MacCallum maximises storage
March 2008

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s foremost Cancer Centre, with the mission of providing quality treatment and support to patients and their families. Underpinned by research and the best evidence available, Peter Mac broadly influences cancer care in the community through multi-disciplinary partnerships, research and education.

The challenge the Peter Mac IT team faced was escalating demands on existing storage, with insufficient budget for a wholesale upgrade of their storage environment.

Advent One’s solution included IBM’s SAN Volume Controller, TotalStorage Productivity Center and additional data storage equipment to cater for growth. Plus, they provided comprehensive implementation services to integrate the new software and hardware with Peter MacCallum’s existing storage capacity. The result is cost effective, scalable data storage and delivery.

ICT Manager Nuno Goncalves says, "We were dealing with an ever increasing demand on storage space; our challenge was to find a solution that was scalable and expandable. The solution would also need to have minimal impact on our Hospital's operations. IBM's SAN Volume Controller allowed us to take advantage of our existing investment, while expanding on capacity and functionality.

“With the assistance of Advent One, we are now capable of expanding and allocating storage on the fly with minimal administration. As we move to virtualise our server hardware and review our disaster recovery process, SVC and VMware will play a major part in our goal to deliver stable and reliable ICT services to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre."
