Intellinx Announces zWatch for Tracking Business Activity in IBM System z Mainframes
|
 |
New Intellinx Version runs natively on System z providing full auditing and fraud detection for Mainframe
applications
The new version allows organizations to track all business transactions performed on the mainframe, generate a
detailed audit trail and detect suspicious activity in real-time. zWatch is the only solution on the market
today which can monitor encrypted mainframe traffic including VPN encryption.
zWatch expands the Intellinx enterprise level solution for detecting and preventing fraud and information
leakage. The new version can be combined with the existing Intellinx non-invasive version which runs on
Windows, UNIX or Linux machines and tracks user and business activity on IBM System z mainframes, i5/OS, Web,
Client/Server, Databases and other platforms. zWatch runs natively on the mainframe, sniffing all inbound and
outbound network transmissions and recording all end-user screens and keystrokes as well as application
transactions. It profiles user and account activity and generates alerts on anomalies in real-time.
zWatch has been tested extensively and has proved to impose almost no impact on workloads since it runs as a
Java application on the System z Application Assist Processor (zAAP) processor, a specialty engine designed
exclusively to operate asynchronously with general purpose processors minimizing any burden to other mainframe
workloads. The Intellinx patent-pending technology captures the activity of all mainframe users 24X7, yet has
minor impact on disk space requirements as it stores the recorded data in highly condensed format.

Jim Porell, IBM Distinguished Engineer of System z, noted in an interview on the five key enhancements to the
new z/OS version that Intellinx zWatch could interest mainframers looking to bolster regulatory compliance.

Fannie Mae Sabotaged?
|
 |
Fired Programmer Accused of Planting Malware 'Timebomb'
A former Unix engineer for Fannie Mae, has been accused of planting malicious code on the corporation's network
that was to "destroy and alter" all of the data on the company's servers.
Rajendrasinh Babubhai Makwana, 35, was indicted for embedding a malicious script in a legitimate script that
ran on Fannie Mae's network every morning. It was set to trigger January 31. It would have disabled monitoring
alerts and all log-ins, deleted the root passwords to the approximately 4,000 Fannie Mae servers, then erased
all data and backup data on those servers by overwriting with zeros.

Are departing staff the new worst enemy of the IT department?
|
 |
With 1.5 million predicted job losses in the US alone, there's an increased risk and exposure to these
attacks says Microsoft's Doug Leland
A recurring subject of the past few weeks has been one of employee sabotage and how redundant staff are
returning to seek revenge.
As the recession continues it could be argued that less attention is being made than is required on staff
movement, especially once someone has been made redundant or has been fired.
With IT staff in this instance particularly in the spotlight, there is the possibility of staff being released
and bearing a grudge, accessing the servers and network remotely when the passwords remain unchanged.
